mirror trim

Side mirrors and trims are vulnerable to knocks, scrapes and accidents. We repair or replace damaged mirrors and trims with precision, restoring safety, function and a quality finish.

Side mirror and trim repairs

Mirrors and trims are the first things to go in a tight car park, and more complex than they look. A modern door mirror is a painted housing around motorised, often heated, glass, with an indicator and increasingly a blind-spot sensor or surround-view camera. Trims cover door mouldings, wheel arch flares, grilles, badges, handles and light assemblies.

Capital SMART repairs and replaces damaged mirrors and trims on drivable vehicles, on their own or alongside a larger repair. Mirror and trim repairs are available as a private repair with a free quote from photos, or through an insurance claim with our partnered insurers: AAMI, GIO, Apia, Shannons Insurance, Vero, Bingle and Suncorp Car Insurance.

Mirror and trim repair considerations

Mirrors with cameras and sensors

On many vehicles the door mirror carries a blind-spot sensor or a surround-view camera. Replacing or refitting a mirror housing can move them, so where required the recalibration is identified at assessment and coordinated as part of the repair. See ADAS calibration.

Textured and unpainted trims

Black textured trims and mouldings can't be repainted to hide a scrape the way a painted panel can, so damaged pieces are usually replaced rather than repaired.

Small job, private repair

A mirror cap or moulding is often a repair that costs less than a policy excess, so it can make sense to pay directly. Request a free quote online, choose a centre and time, and pay by credit or debit card before the work begins.

Mirrors and trims damaged with the door

A side impact that takes a mirror off usually marks the door too. Mirror, moulding and door repairs are handled together so the whole side is repaired as a single job. See side panel and door repairs.

Common questions about mirror and trim repairs

Can a side mirror be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?

It depends on what’s damaged. A scuffed or cracked painted cap can often be repaired or replaced on its own and colour matched. Broken glass, a failed motor or a torn-off housing generally means replacing the mirror assembly or its components.

Yes. Where a mirror carries a camera or sensor, we identify at assessment whether replacing or refitting it requires recalibration, and coordinate that as part of the repair.

Yes. Colour-coded mirror caps, handles and painted trims are colour matched to your vehicle before fitting so they blend with the door beside them.

For insurance repairs we use original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts or high quality alternatives, depending on your insurer’s guidelines and availability. For private repairs, OEM parts are available on request; let us know when requesting your quote.

Most minor repairs are completed within days. If a part has to be ordered, or the mirror repair is part of a larger door repair, it can take longer. We confirm an estimated timeframe once your vehicle has been assessed.

For a mirror or trim on its own, compare a private quote with your policy excess; paying directly is often simpler. If the mirror was damaged in a larger accident you’re claiming with one of our partnered insurers, it’s normally repaired as part of that claim. We currently only accept insurance repairs from our partnered insurers.
